Right from the moment Lisa started asking those questions I knew that it was only a matter of time until the truth was out there. We both wanted this as much as each other, and sooner or later one of us was bound to blurt something stupid out.

At first, I’d been surprised by the questions Lisa asked, the things she was leading us toward, but then I remembered all the times she’d heavily hinted at things she’d wanted in the past. When she wanted to be, she well and truly threw subtlety out the window.

She knew what she wanted and she wasn’t afraid to go and get it. It was one of the things I loved most about her, how relentless she could be, but that also terrified me. I knew there was no way she was going to back off any time soon, and if she continued the way she was then things would only get awkward.

I loved Lisa with all my heart, but then I felt the same about Shaun. Being free to think about my emotions for him without feeling guilty was incredible, but it made it almost impossible not to want more with him.

Speaking to him about it, or at least having a conversation that might lead to that, made a lot more sense.

My heart was racing as I stepped out of our bedroom, anticipation and nerves getting the better of me. I really had no idea how he would react or what he might say, and in all honesty I had no idea what I was going to say.

Where would I even start? There was no way I could just blurt it out, but he probably already thought that something was up with us.

Standing in the darkness of the cabin, I stared in the direction of his room, listening to the thundering of my heart. Things could change so much between the three of us, for better or worse, and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that.

The idea that we might scare our best friend off was eating me up, but there was no way I could pass up the opportunity. My need to at least try far outweighed the terror that bubbled up within me.

What would it actually be like if he felt the same? How much closer would we all be?

Just thinking about it was driving me wild with desire, the thought of being with him for the first time making me ache. His lips on mine occupied my every thought, leaving me stuck as I stared at his door.

After a few minutes I took a step closer, and then his door swung open, revealing Shaun in the dim light that poured from his room.

As he looked up at me he jumped back, his eyes going wide in fright, a loud yelp breaking from his lips.

Despite myself, I couldn’t help but laugh, amused by his reaction.

“What the hell?” He growled, taking a step toward me. “Why are you lurking in the dark by yourself?”

I shrugged, trying to think of an answer but nothing came to mind.
